The Greenstone Guide to Fun in Austin

EVENTS & CLUBS

CLUBS

Here is a short list of clubs in Austin that are geared towards the outdoors. There are many other clubs, but I don't have much experience with them, so I'll have to write them up later.

AUSTIN SIERRA CLUB

The Austin Sierra Club has weekly hikes and trips to parks around Austin and the Hill Country. Both members and non-members are welcome.

HILL COUNTRY OUTDOORS CLUB

A club with membership fees. They are mostly a social club for 40+ year olds these days, but they do a lot of outdoor activities.

UT GROTTO

If you're interested in caving then this is a good group to hook up with. You don't have to be a UT student - it's open to all.

MEETUP

There are lots of Meetup groups in Austin... hundreds of them. The one that I lead events for that I highly recommend is Austin Adventure Network.

FISKER OWNERS CLUB

I'm trying to start a Fisker Owners Club for people who own the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid electric car.

EVENT CALENDARS

There are many organizations that maintain events calendars for Austin, the Hill Country, and all of Texas. Below are links to many of their sites. An EXCELLENT source for information about neat stuff to see and do in Texas is Texas Highways Magazine. Unlike Texas Monthly which is basically all advertisements and geared toward city folk, Texas Highways Magazine is an excellent monthly publication with wonderful articles and photographs about all sorts of interesting places around Texas. I strongly recommend a subscription to that magazine.

AUSTIN CHRONICLE HILL COUNTRY GUIDE

This is a really good guide for all sorts of stuff in the Hill Country and also includes an events listing.

TEXAS COUNTRY REPORTER

Has a map of Texas broken down into regions. Click on the Hill Country region to get a good list of upcoming events throughout the Hill Country.

TEXAS PARKS & WILDLIFE CALENDAR

This is a very good site for finding out what events are going on at any of the State Parks in Texas.

TRAVEL TEX

A very nice looking site, but I've always had problems finding anything useful on it. Let's you choose the type of activity and the region that you would like to visit. Then it shows you what is available.

TEXAS HIGHWAYS MAGAZINE'S FUN FORECAST

This usually has it all.

TOUR TEXAS

This site is probably best suited for people driving through Texas or visiting from out of state. Their events info is scarce.

HILL COUNTRY SUN'S EVENTS CALENDAR

Yet another list of stuff going on throughout the Hill Country.
