The Greenstone Guide to Austin & The Hil Country

BRIGHT LEAF STATE NATURAL AREA

ABOUT THE PLACE

This park which is right near 2222 and Mesa Dr. is not on any map yet, and it is open by appointment only. The entrance isn't even marked. The Austin Sierra Club does occasional hikes there, as well as other related organizations who maintain the trails. To be honest, I was fairly disappointed with this place. It's got a great parking lot (I'm serious), but the hiking trail itself is less than average with no scenic views and very little to offer for water features such as streams, pools, and waterfalls. If all you're interested in a hilly hike among lots of cedar then you might enjoy this trail, but I think that other parks nearby offer so much more.

There is another web site which offers some detailed information about this park, so CLICK HERE.

HOW TO GET THERE

Get onto 2222 going west. Turn left onto the first street after the light at Mesa Dr. Turn right onto Old Bee Caves Rd., and then enter the unmarked gate a few hundred feet on the left.

PICTURES

When I did this hike I brought my camera, but I didn't see a single thing worth taking a photo of, so there's nothing to show. Just imagine a limestone dirt path with lots of cedar - that's what it looked like.
