The Greenstone Guide to Austin & The Hil Country

SALADO

ABOUT THE PLACE

I must admit, I've only been to Salado once, but I was thoroughly unimpressed by it. There was only one shop that had "quality" artwork, and the rest of the places sold stuff that I guess would be described as "folk art". You know, cheap wooden stuff with lace on it, most of which has some religious meaning. Not my style; didn't like it. Go to Wimberly - it's closer, better shops, more character, and the drive is much more scenic.

The only good excuse to drive up to Salado is to visit Chalk Ridge Falls Park.

HOW TO GET THERE

Take 35 North for about an hour.

PICTURES

I don't plan on going back, so I don't think I'll have any pics of this place unless someone sends me some.
